The Lamentations series reflects my deep fondness and respect for nature. While the American Northeast forests have a reasonable level of logging trade, large tropical and boreal forest areas are disappearing at an alarming rate. Climate change, bringing floods and forest fires, takes a significant toll as well.

The Lamentations sculptures embody my elegy for this loss. I draw a visual and thematic parallel between the tears of martyrdom, loss, and compassion represented in the Christian Renaissance European imagery and the droplets of dripping sap from a resinous tree when it has been hand-trimmed.

I intend to prompt an emotional response to initiate thought about the complex interplay between humans and the non-human world, exploring the delicate balance between creation and destruction. It is a call to reflect on our collective responsibility towards each other and our environment.
